  What is sexology?

Sexology is a clinical field that applies an understanding of human sexuality to individuals' problems and concerns. A clinical sexologist can address issues which couples have such as loss of passion, difficulty
reaching orgasm, erection and ejaculation challenges, shame and guilt regarding sex, issues about sexual orientation, and many others. A sexologist will take a sex history, help clients identify their sexual needs and goals, offer suggestions and assignments, and refer clients to other specialists when necessary, including physicians, psychologists, and clergy.

Sexology consultation can benefit anyone including those who don't have any sexuality 'issues'. Most clients are healthy and content, and are just looking for a little boost. It is not psychotherapy, talk therapy, or sex
therapy which typically starts in the past uncovering dysfunctions with the expectation of only bringing patients back up to baseline.

Melissa Jones, Ph.D., is a personal sexuality education consultant. As such, she works with couples to address their sexuality and intimacy concerns, interests, and goals. This process is designed to advance sexual knowledge and skills. This can be done via telephone, video conference, or in her San Antonio, Texas office. Dr. Jones is a clinical sexologist whose practice style is based on the values of her religious upbringing. She is an active professional member of the American Counseling Association, the International Coach Federation, and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. She has held many leadership responsibilities within her church, has been married for 20 years, and is a mother of three.
